This innovative air-bubble system is designed to protect marine life—especially sensitive species like porpoises and seals—from harmful underwater noise generated by pile driving, blasting, and other high-impact operations.
Engineering the Bubble Barrier.
The Big Bubble Curtain consists of a flexible hose system laid on the seabed around the noise source. Equipped with precision nozzles, the system releases compressed air through the hoses, creating a continuous curtain of rising air bubbles. These bubbles alter the physical properties of the water, effectively scattering and dampening sound waves. Depending on site conditions, one or two concentric hose rings can be deployed to maximize noise reduction. The Big Bubble Curtain reduces underwater noise by up to 18 decibels, offering effective protection for marine life during offshore construction. Its design is both reusable and environmentally friendly, making it a sustainable choice for repeated use in various marine projects. Additionally, the system operates without disturbing the seabed, preserving the integrity of the underwater ecosystem.
